Review of The Kids Are All Right (2010) by Shelby E — 27 Feb 2015
This is a quiet little drama that, despite its contrived set-up, is a wonderfully authentic depiction of family relationships. Julianne Moore and Annette Benning are terrific as a lesbian couple whose children want to make contact with their sperm donor/biological Father...
How this drama develops is beautifully handled and sometimes surprising, with Mark Ruffalo being both charming and slightly slimy. For all its hipster settings, characters and soundtrack it's very genuine and touching. I was slightly disappointed by the end, which tends to fade out rather than being more satisfying, but this is well worth a watch.
