Review of The Kid with a Bike (2011) by Adam S — 20 Nov 2011
Cute, neo-realist fluff. first Dardene's, and I enjoyed it. Better than 400 Blows but also the opposite, this kid wants to find a father and father figure, not escape his family. saw this is on thursday with we need to talk about kevin and "play", so it was kind of the official "little kids do bad things day", but unlike the other children Kid With A Bike is motivated but a pure-love in all his actions.
sad and tense things happen in the film but it was never the end of the world, unlike many of the other films, and that alone was refreshing. this was nice, it's clearcut tether from parental abandonment to childhood crime was also interesting compared to the complicated questions raised in Play, Into The Abyss, and We Need To Talk About Kevin, though the point of the film wasn't to delve into that question.
it was nice. nothing more.
