Review of The Kid Stays in the Picture (2002) by Hugo S — 10 Mar 2008
THE KID STAYS IN THE PICTURE (2002).
Directed by Brett Morgen & Nanette BursteinThe Kid Stays in the Picture is a unique documentary about Robert Evans. Well its basically an auto-biography cause he is the narator and you dont see the usual interviews of people talking about him. Its simply him telling his own story and all you see are pictures and movie footage.First of all, who is Robert Evans ? He was an actor in the late 50's but did only a few filmd and went on later in the late 60's and 70's to become a big shot producer and saved the Parmount studios. He work on such classics as Rosemary's Baby, Love Story, Harold & Maude, The Godfather and more and as an independent producer he went on to produce Chinatown, Marathon Man, Black Sunday, etc ... He was a very successful moviemaker in the 70's, he was different from other producers cause he wasnt in it for the money, he had a vision, he wanted to make good films.Through the film not only you get to see what he did professionally, but also his love story with Ali McGraw, his drugs problem, his fall in the 80's and such things. While doing the voice over you can hear him re-enact some of the moments that happened in his life and its pretty funny cause it all sounds like movie dialogues, he doesnt care much he swears and its all funny and it feels real. This is definately a great documentary about a man who made cinema history and its damn well-edited making the film very entertaining.
