Review of The Karate Kid Part III (1989) by Eric C — 19 Oct 2009
Well what the hell happened here? KKII was a great follow up, it followed the story and continued it well. This film just back tracks, leaving Daniel to contend with situations he has already been subjected too, just tweaked a little bit.
I guess another reason for the film's failure is that he is no longer a Kid and the woman he is interested in tells him 20 minutes into the film that he has no shot.
Moving on away from Macchio and Morita, who do a great job in a mess of a film. Martin Kove returns from his role in the original film, crazier than ever. Obviously we are meant to believe that someone like Kove's character would actually hold a grudge for so long. Not only is he not over his #1 student losing, but he brings in a businessman to help him bring Daniel down and force him into fighting the new Cobra Kye muscle.
The performance from this new villain is atroscious, I mean everything he says sounds like he is overacting. What happened to John Advildsen? This is the man who directed the first Rocky, now he has let himself developed piece of crap like this.
The only reason I give this a barely fresh tomato is because of Macchio and Morita's performance. The music is also not as good, especially since I don't remember much about the tunes.
Can this film series get any worse????????????
Oh wait a minute "Bangs head".
2 out f 5.
