Review of The Karate Kid Part II (1986) by Tasos L — 31 Oct 2012
Perhaps it's because I'm a sucker for all things Japanese or similar, but I thought that this film was just as good as the original, contrary to popular believe. Sure there was some plot holes and some of the characters were extremely one-dimensional, but none of this really matters in the grand scale of things.
Daniel and Mr. Miyagi are both back and their both just as great as they were in the first film. Add to that a nice backstory for Mr. Miyagi, some nice karate lessons and a beautiful setting in Okinawa and you have yourself one nice movie.
The villains played by Danny Kamekona and Yuji Okumoto were perhaps the movie's weakest link, there was absolutelu no depth in to them. Daniel's new love interest, played by Tamlyn Tomita, on the other hand was fantastic.
I totally loved her. And she's cute too. All in all, an enjoyable experience. Not a masterpiece and it has some problems, but it's a good follow-up for the classic that was the first movie.
