This movie was the same as Jaden Smith's acting: over-exaggerated and underwhelming. The situations were painfully concocted and skill-lessly executed.

Also, this movie managed to effectively stereotype both Americans and Chinese, making things up as it went along.

One more thing. It's called the "Karate" kid. But Dre learns Kung Fu. In fact, there is even a line where he argues with his mom that this is not karate, it's KUNG FU. This lack of care about "big picture" items such as the name of the whole entire film caries over into small details (for example, like the fact that a kung fu master would never charm a snake while wearing a frivolous pink scarf).
