Review of The Karate Kid (2010) by Jamesirish68 — 17 Nov 2018
Jaden Smith really carried this movie which is no mean feat considering he was only 11 during filming. He never lived up to his promise in subsequent movies unfortunately so it seems likely that his first lead role will turn out to be his best.
The movie itself is as clichéd and predictable as could possibly be, but that's no bad thing. It's a remake and it's aimed at preteen kids especially boys. It hits all the right notes in the right way considering the audience it's aiming at.
Jackie Chan is standout. He's a fine actor as well as an action star. Slight minuses are the love interest. She is too old at 15 for an 11 year old boy, that particular arc felt a bit creepy. And the name Karate Kid is an obvious misnomer, it should be Kung Fu Kid.
