Review of The Karate Kid (2010) by Alan Y — 14 Sep 2012
One of those rare remakes that take what made the original interesting and take a fresh take on it. You could even say this belongs in the same universe as the original karate kid series. It is long and a lot of the training on the great wall of china are just stupid and unneeded. Jackie Chan shows real depth as the teacher and is the anchor of the film as Smith is criminally out of depth. Smith obviously enjoyed the father producing thing to think he is the soul reason we are watching this film. If I had one complaint about the film it is Smith.
The film builds slowly to an action packed finale with some incredible moves. the film will be compared to the original but truefully this really isn't a remake as such, there are a couple of winks to the original but if you haven't seen these you won't care so much.
