Review of The Karate Kid (2010) by Kelan W — 15 Jun 2012
The Karate Kid is a semi decent remake of the classic we all love. The plot is actually very different from the original and feels more like a copy of it rather then an actual remake. But I think the main problem Jaden Smith's performance.
He is simply to young for you to feel the teenage rivalry and emotional undertones of the original. He also does a weak job at delivering lines. The subplot with his girlfriend is very bland to. However there is one redeeming factor.
Jackie Chan. He has a very powerful scene in his car and is wise through out the film. He is still not as good as the original Mr Miyagi but I like him. The vilains are much more realistic then the original's but there just forgettable and boring.
As silly as the villains from the original are, they are much fun. At first I hated this movie but half way through I found myself enjoying it. It's not great by any means but definitely worth your time.
