Review of The Karate Kid (1984) by Evan S — 10 Jun 2010
With the remake just coming out, it was pretty much written in the stars that I would have to see this flick again. It's as good and cheesy as it ever was. From the great iconic quotes like, "Wax on, wax off," to the subtley manufactured z?n moments, it manages to tug at the heart just enough for me to believe .
.. it could happen. Mr. Miyagi is a great character and probably the only reason we even care about Daniel-san. But some of Miyagi's world worn charm rubs off on the little guy by end's end and we even care about him too.
There's nothing shocking or even remotely surprising in this thing, but it's fun. And fun is good.
