Review of The Karate Kid (1984) by Travis R — 11 Sep 2010
Hard to believe I never watched this as a kid, as it would have been right up my alley along with "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" and "Three Ninjas". It's a fun and entertaining flick - with memorable scenes and characters, and a great portrayal of friendship between Macchio and Morita.
It's a little slow paced in parts but it's still very good, with an ending that I think might be more pleasing than John G. Avildsen's "Rocky". As a movie that was made over 25 years ago, parts may be a little inaccessible for a younger generation, which is probably why they decided to go ahead and remake it (I haven't seen the remake, no plans to).
..but I'm pretty sure it's not as satisfying as this.
