Review of The Jungle Book (2016) by Keagan W — 30 Aug 2016
Great adaptation from both the book and the Animated movie. If you thought Avatar looked real, pretty much everything was CGI and looked incredibly real. Anything that wasn't Mowgli or something he came into direct contact with was CG but it looked and felt like a jungle.
The voice actors were near perfectly cast. Scarlett Johansson was wasted talent in this movie, because she had only a few minutes of screen time. Idris Elba was an incredibly menacing Shere Khan. Ben Kingsley was the guardian that is Bagheera.
Bill Murry was a great Baloo, but I don't think he was the only person who could fill those shoes. Christopher Walken, was a straight up Italian Gangster thug as King Louis. Neel Sethi is a good child actor who likely has a bright career ahead.
I wish they would have added some more Human elements, similar to the older live action one without talking animals, Because Mowgli's choice of home, Jungle or Human, would have been more impactful if say his uncle or mother were involved in the story.
Overall very satisfied with the film.
