Review of The Jungle Book (2016) by Amanda C — 16 Sep 2016
There is a complete lack of energy or magic in this unnecessary remake of The Jungle Book. The kid appears to be a bit lost as he acts around CGI creatures, although he does get points for being incredibly precocious.
Bill Murry is an absolute delight as Baloo, but the other animals voiced by a range of famous actors range from anyone could have done the voice (Lupita Nyong'o, Scarlett Johansson, Idris Elba) to cringe worthy (Christopher Walkin).
The filmmakers never seem to decide if they are trying to remake the animated Disney film or are attempting a more adult version like the 1994 live action version. As a result, this Jungle Book hovers somewhere between a light hearted romp aimed at children and a scarier, more adult film, and never manages to achieve either.
