Review of The Jungle Book (2016) by Ben A. V — 01 Feb 2017
For most of this I thought the worst I could say about it is it's...inoffensive. The 1967 version is my best-loved Disney, so I wasn't going to more than like this newly animated tale.
Sure enough, it was instantly a bit too "Uncanny Valley Book" for me. But it was fine, it was okay, and I appreciated the nods to the previous cartoon in the score.
When Christopher Walken (now a parody of himself) turned up as King Louie, though, that's where I got clued as to what *did* offend me about it:.
This is "The Jungle Book" for squares, daddy-o. I like a little (actually, a lot) more jazz in my jungle, and this one swings...like a rock. Well, it's a doo-bah-dee-doo, yes, it's a doo-bah-dee-doo, I mean a doo-bee, doo-bee, doo-bee, doo-bee, doo-bee-dee-doo...
