Review of The Jungle Book (1967) by Brian R — 23 Feb 2011
This is the worst Disney movie ever made (next to Return of Jafar), & I'm a Disney fan to the end. Sorry, but read the book, it's a lot better.
Well everything the Disney company made in 1963 - 1973 was pure crap.
The animation in here was lovely as it should be from a Disney movie, but as for everything else, no, it's not working.
Characters: Mowgli has to be the most annoying, whiny, stuck-up character I have ever seen in an animated movie. As for the rest of the characters, I only liked Baloo & Bagheera, everyone else was just annoying & stupid. And Kaa the snake has to be the worst snake in animation history next to the one in Robin hood.
Animation, beautiful & well done like the Disney films should be. The only good thing about this movie, but not enough to save it from how bad it is.
Music/Songs: Annoying all the way. They're not all that well written, & plus, the majority of them aren't even that catchy. The score wasn't all that special either, Alan Menken really should have been alive & composing when this movie was made.
Plot/Story: While many people complain that Disney's films all are just rip-offs (& I tend to disagree), I have to say that this film's plot & story just didn't work out well like the others. The whole plot is pretty much Mowgli bitching & whining how he doesn't want to go to the man-village & Bagheera wants him too. The book is much better.
Script/Dialogue: Throughout the majority of the movie, it was always just Bagheera & Baloo arguing over Mowgli saying the exact same thing "We have to take him to the man-village", & that's pretty much the whole sum of the dialogue.
Final Summation, this movie is annoying, badly written, & has an annoying set of characters. Anything that the Disney company made in 1963-1973 was when Disney was at it's most mediocre.
