In the trailer, The Joneses is presented as lighthearted comedy but this is actually misleading - it's a drama with sporadic comedy throughout the first half. It appears the movie is actually trying to make a serious point about consumerism.
Unfortunately it's exaggeration and oversimplification of the causes and effects of this complex social problem work to create a childish fable more similar to an episode of Blossom than a story for grown-ups.
