Although I've liked a few of Martin's movies in the past, I found the Jerk to be not just an unfunny, but a really bad movie. I guess I just didn't really understand the jokes and I'd say I'm generally susceptible to a wide variety of humor.
.. Anything from classical comedies such as Some Like It Hot to modern bad taste such as Freddy Got Fingered, but the Jerk...I could not digest. I'd say the physical comedy in this movie was probably better (not funnier, but better) than the subpar dialogue produced by the dreadful characters.
