Review of The Jerk (1979) by Wesley W — 05 Aug 2013
Deeply disappointed by this. I found this movie to be annoying most of the time than funny. In my opinion, Steve Martin's character is just not funny and there is nothing special about him at all and he is more of a stupid guy than a stupid guy that is actually funny.
I only laughed at 3 parts during the entire film and that is sad especially coming from an old Steve Martin movie that people praise as a classic for some reason. Its not just the lack of comedy that makes this a bad movie for me, its because of all the other stupid things that happen.
At a point in the movie some mindless idiot finds Navin's number on the phonebook and for some reason he decides that he wants to kill him and I think it is just stupid and pointless and he reveals later why he tried to kill him and his reason is stupid as well.
There are other stupid moments as well and that is the one I found to be the major flaw of the film. I have absolutely no idea why people like this movie so much and this is one of those times where I really don't agree with the tomatometer and the critics.
