In my opinion the jerk is one of steve martins best films. this is one of his best comedic performances. the character he plays is so out of this world you can't help but laugh when something bad happens to him.
he is kind at heart in the beginning but then he gets rich and turns into an every day greedy man. at times you feel sorry for his character but then you snap back to reality and realize that this is a comedy.
if you haven't seen this movie then just imagine, a white man who is raised by a poor black family, he doesn't realize he is white until his family tells him and once he is old enough to move out, thats when the humorous adventure takes place.
one of my favorite classic comedies.
