Review of The Jazz Singer (1927) by Sara J — 23 Nov 2008
I know, it's racist in some ways. And the sound is only really there for the singing. But the blackface minstral stuff, as distasteful as it is, was the way it was back then. Everything, including music and show-business, was segregated.
It's important to see that and realize how much progress we have made in 80 years. The whole technology aspect of adding sound to movies is facinating also.
