Review of The Jazz Singer (1927) by Ryan D — 31 Jan 2009
This is a wonderful movie, an amalgamation of silent and talking modes into one picture (remember, this was a huge milestone for Warner Brothers!). The scene that really tugged on my emotions was when Al Jolson's character sang a beautiful rendition of "Kol Nidre.
" It was amazing to see that especially since Jolson was Jewish in real life. If there's anyone who wants to see what a movie was like over 80 years ago, watch this!
