Review of The Jane Austen Book Club (2007) by Eva M — 21 Oct 2008
A nice film and you can tell the book it's based on must be a fun read. They try to cram a lot of material into this film but maintain a nice light touch. The characters are complex and the movie really only skims the surface.
It would be interesting to learn more about Prudy for example. And the Jane Austen of course, there are some insights and you can tell the story springs from a love of the novels. I did like the male characters though - you can tell they were written by a woman! :) But uuugh, the ending is so sickly sweet! Aaand: could they not have made some of the characters a bit less gorgeous? Allegra's girlfriends at least?! I mean, are we supposed to believe that the world is actually full of these stunning, picture-perfect, sky-diving, rock-climbing, literature-loving arty lesbians?!
