Review of The Jane Austen Book Club (2007) by Alex C — 02 Mar 2009
Lots of fun, but definitely a bit of a chick-flick. Even so, it made me want to read all the Jane Austen novels I still haven't read (the only one I've read is Pride and Prejudice). My favorite character was the science-fiction-loving guy who grew up with three sisters--he was utterly believable, just great.
There are lots of laugh-out-loud moments, for sure, but that doesn't really help the fact that this is a chick-flick, through and through. (I generally take offense at films that attempt to play off my emotions because of my gender.
