Review of The Jane Austen Book Club (2007) by Jess L — 31 Dec 2012
Not at all the outright "chick flick" I thought it was going to be. Sure, it's probably aimed towards females but there is enough here for a bloke to latch on to and as a result, stay interested.
Almost all of the performances are top notch - one of the main reasons I found this movie a pleasure to sit down and watch just recently. I was intrigued by nearly all the plot lines (not Maggie Grace's character, however).
Hugh Dancy (as 'Grigg') was probably my favourite character, with Emily Blunt ('Prudie) a close second. Both were interesting characters that I wanted to be in almost every scene.
All in all, this was a hit given it was aimed to be background fodder as we put Christmas lights up - but it turned into one of my surprise favourite films of 2009.
