Review of The Jammed (2007) by Redmond H — 21 Aug 2007
Certainly one of the better Australian films out and about. Even more impressive that it was self-funded and self-distributed. The story of sex slavery was heartfelt and honest and at times savage in its portrayal of the lives these exploited women endure.
Being portrayed in Melbourne certainly made it confronting, slightly changing my memory recognition of places that were portrayed, namely Swan Street Richmond. You'd think Melbourne, being the self-promoting and cultured city it is would be beyond this kind of activity.
Sure, at times the supporting cast over-acted themselves (hence why they are perhaps 'B-Australian Actors'...) but Veronica Sywak was excellent, as were the other leading roles. Go see it!! Support some Aussie cinema, and other directors -learn from this film, your middle budget, over-hyped days are over!!
