Review of The Jacket (2005) by La Tulipe N — 19 Feb 2010
Short review:
The Jacket is a pretty strong Action-thriller (still action is maybe not the word. But if you are a person that likes to over think the small details in the story line, the entertainment value disappears quite quickly.
The movie reminds me a lot of The Butterfly Effect but still has the special style it needs and is very well performed. She is a little bit flawed script-wise and leaves a couple of holes after it self but if you are ready to ignore them then this can be a very good entertainment for you. Adrien Brody is great here like always and Kris Kristofferson and Jennifer Jason Leigh are also very convincing in their important parts. Kiera Knightley isn't horrible to look at either.
The Jacket has that sour element and many interesting mysteries, but she is first and foremost psychological thriller that plays a bit with science. The director John Maybury bases the film well up and you never loose the interest in the storyline.
But despite containing aspects relating to time travel, mental health and delusions. It's still pretty shallow and doesn't even try to study the human factor or science in general. The Jacket is just straightforward thriller that in many aspects surprises you and makes you believe in the end that the story is going somewhere rather then just playing with the viewer that has unfortunately become way to frequent in films today.
6/10.
