Review of The Jacket (2005) by Renesa N — 08 Jun 2010
The Jacket is an unexpectedly great movie with a great cast and a great style. The Jacket is about a man who is given experimental drug treatment while stuffed inside a morgue locker. He becomes torn from delusion and reality, for everytime he enters the locker he is sent 15 years into the future to meet a woman he knew before to solve the mystery of his death.
The movie's tone begins off to make it look like a thriller and a twist ending. And though this movie has a great twist in plot, it becomes a lot more romantic as the story progresses, which deffenetly does not hurt the movie at all. As our lead character is conflicted with knowing what is real outside of the locker, he is also compelled on solving the mysteries of the past when he enters inside the locker. He does not care for his life anymore, for he only dreams to go back inside the locker so he can meet his love again.
Most people will be surprised by this movie. It's a "love it or hate it" kind of movie. Though it reminds me of a few other movies, The Jacket still does a great job. It's romantic/bitter sweet tone is a refreshing feeling to the overall plot of the movie, and I think this movie gives a wonderfully creative style not seen very often.
P.S. Daniel Craig looks and acts completely different. I was shocked. Great acting from the entire cast.
