Review of The Island (2007) by Jacob P — 07 Jul 2011
I have been waiting a long time for a movie like this. Not only is it the first great (modern) orthodox movie but it is also the best celluloid depiction of a Fool for Christ I have ever seen (expect maybe in that old Boris Goudinov movie).
I think this monk is modeled after Elder Theophil of Kiev...even though it is placed in Soviet era Russia...a couple of the exploits (throwing the charred log at the abbot, covering the door-handle w/ soot) come straight from St.
Theophil's life. Amazing movie...a must see.
