Review of The Iron Giant (1999) by Alex W — 06 Jul 2012
Brad Bird is known more for The Incredibles or WALL-E or even his more recent excursion, Ghost Protocal, but 'Iron Giant' is where he started. And it is a sight to behold. Brad crafts a world that is definatly animated, but doesn't rely on the typical animated trops of the time, such as strechy characters and fart jokes, and makes characters that you care about, even so to the giant CG.
.....giant! The story is perfectly crafted to leave you with tears in your eyes, no matter the age. No where does it stall and it even slightly pushes the boundaries of family entertainment a little further.
The animated classics touch on themes like friendship and love, and this also does, but even more so by showing that just because others do, doesn't mean we have to fight. And that we could give ourselves up to help others.
To simply put it, 'Iron Giant' is a giant, and one filled with heart and love. It teaches kids that friendship has no boundaries and that just how far you can go to protect the innocent. It will capture your heart, and while it has as big of an action scene as any trandformer movie, this robot has a lot more love.
And you'll love him to. 5/5.
