Review of The Iron Giant (1999) by Giovanni C — 14 Sep 2012
The Iron Giant has got to be one of Brad Bird's timeless masterpiece. People who didn't like this movie are wrong. This film deserves every praise it's given. It was funny and has a good chemistry between Hogarth and Giant. What makes this so unique is that it wasn't too kid friendly at all. Instead, it appeals to everyone from young and old.
The story was pretty fun and had a heart. It flowed pretty well from start to finish without being cheesy. However, it had an ending where it makes you think that it should have a sequel, which it didn't. It's kinda similar to the way The Incredibles ended, except it ended differently. I love that movie as well. The humor was smart and imaginative.
The voice actors did pretty well, and I didn't know, at first, that the well-known cast voiced these memorable characters. Even though I'm not a fan of Vin Diesel, I thought he did a brilliant job with his character. Eli Marienthal was outstanding with his main character, and I think he should be in more movies. It's been a long time since I've heard from his projects. I was surprised about Christopher McDonald being one of the voice actors in this movie. He was funny in Happy Gilmore, and he made his character, Kent Mansley memorable here. Kent may be a jerk, but he had me laughing whenever he appears.
This is one of the animated films that should be appreciated by everyone. This movie is underrated, and it would have been better if enough people would like it for what it is. The ending could have been a little better, but it was brilliant for what it was. The Iron Giant will always be one of my favorite movies ever.
