Review of The Invasion (2007) by Antonio — 12 Apr 2009

After a space shuttle crashes back to Earth spreading its infected debris from Texas to Washington, a psychiatrist named Carol begins to notice unusual behaviour manifest in the people around her, and soon finds out that an alien epidemic is causing humans to turn into aliens in their sleep.

With help from friend and fellow doctor Ben, she discovers that her son may hold the key to fighting the epidemic, and she sets out to retrieve him from her infected ex-husband, only to become infected herself and in a race against time as she struggles to stay awake.

Although there is a lot of events in the plot, there really isn't much to it. It's basically 'The Happening' meets 'The Astronaut's Wife' but with less originality and depth.

That having been said, I can happily watch any film to do with epidemics of any sort, so for me it's still a really enjoyable film; it's fairly short, it has a good cast (Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig), and there is so much happening all the time that it's impossible to get bored watching it.

Unfortunately it just can't be called a really good film, because there isn't enough intelligence to it, but there are some really fun ideas and it's definitely worth seeing if you like that sort of thing.
