Review of The Invasion (2007) by Bernard A — 12 Jul 2009
"REM sleep interruption must have caused his cardiac arrest..." says the know-it-all lab tech (Jeffery Wright) who is able to isolate, identify and extrapolate what an alien virus is up to in like a span of 24 hrs. In the immortal words of Pvt. Hudson from Aliens: WHY DON'T YOU PUT HER IN CHARGE!?! Well, it's a HIM in this case but you get the point...
I really only recorded this flick so I can watch Nicole Kidman...honest! Having Daniel Craig in it too could only be a plus. Not knowing anything about the plot beforehand - I had no idea it was gonna be a modernized version of THE INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS...but it really wasn't that difficult to make the connections to it in no time at all. My biggest hang-up, though is if you are going to make another remake of this - at least come up with something a little bit more unconventional to make the ride worthwhile. This flick is akin to one of those cheap haunted-house carnival rides. You pretty much know what's in store for you. This flick throws at you most of the usual cliched zombie chills & thrills. It may be a little fun for the 99 minute running time but in the end leaves you feeling unsatisfied.
My Nicole Kidman fix is momentarily satisfied...for now.
2/10.
