Review of The Intouchables (2011) by Alex M — 11 Dec 2013
I've never quite seen anything like The Intouchables before. Not only had I never seen a film that focused on the relationship between a handicap and his caretaker before, but I haven't seen a film in a while that so closely focused on a single friendship.
Cluzet and Sy's dynamite chemistry really carry this film, and they're aided by a razor sharp script that is both biting and hilarious. For someone who hasn't been in any big roles before, Sy is outstanding, and really owns every scene he's in - it's a small miracle that he didn't receive more awards recognition.
My only complaint about this movie is that it had a tendency to drag in the middle, and I felt like certain parts of the story could have been explored more deeply - I just didn't feel as satisfied by the ending as I should have.
Regardless, though, this is a moving, laugh-out-loud dramedy with two fantastic performances - don't miss it!
