Review of The Intern (2015) by Ameen K — 02 Nov 2015
Let me start off by saying that I love Robert De Niro. I am a huge fan of his, even if some of the recent movies he has starred in haven't been so good, I still think he is a great actor. Ok, now that, that is out of the way, let's get this review started.
The performances in The Intern are very good. Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway have amazing chemistry in this film. It's no Jake Gyllenhall and Michael Pena but it's still amazing. Robert De Niro is very charming in this movie. I'm not the biggest Anne Hathaway fan but she really did surprise me in this. She was really good and really believable.
The Intern is really funny, specifically a break-in scene that had me crying. That scene was hilarious! I was debating whether to give this a 3.5 star rating but when I looked back on that scene, I knew I had to give it a 4 star. The drama was really good too. My only complaint was that it didn't know what it was trying to be. Did it want to be a comedy or a drama? I'm not saying you can't have "dramedy". It just had me laughing at one point, then sad, then laughing, then sad again. Another complaint I had was the pacing, it wasn't very fast but it wasn't very slow. There were a few scenes that dragged on for a bit to long and there were parts where I was checking my watch. There are a few boring/dull scenes here and there but for the most part, I had a blast watching this. It has a little bit of comedy, drama, and a lot of heart. See it!
