Review of The Insider (1999) by No O — 16 Mar 2010
There's not much to say about The Insider, but I'm gonna say it anyway.
It is a true story about Jeffrey Wigand ( Russel Crowe ) a man who worked in a tobacco company and cthe company of manipulate the nicotine in tobaccos ans deliberately ignoring the life risks of nicotine. He is helped by Lowell Bergman ( Al Pacino ) who works at the CBS and wants to interview him and publish the story about the company and its secrets to viciate people. It is based in the Variety Fair Magazine article " The Man Who Knew Too Much ".
The film is intelligent, intriguing, and has great performances from Crowe and Pacino and delicious dialogues. The only problems are: there are some parts where it is not intriguing and even slow paced, and it's is too long. But the film is still very good.
It was nominated for seven Academy awards: Best Editing ( lost to The Matrix ), Best Sound ( lost to The Matrix ), Best Cinematography ( lost to American Beauty ), Best Adapted Screenplay ( lost to The Cider House Rules ), Best Actor ( Russel Crowe, lost to Kevin Spacev in American Beauty ), Best Director ( Michael Mann, lost to Sam Mendes by American Beauty ) and Best Picture ( lost to American Beauty ).
Though its small flaws it's still very good. Final Rating: 7,7/10 - Great.
PS: if there are any gramatical errors, please don't mind, I'm not native english speakes and I'm still learning.
