Fear and Paranoia, the importance of truth within a multilayered corrupt system, this all encapsulated within Michael Mann's spacious yet intense direction style.
The core subject matter of a conspiracy within the tobacco trade, is probably worth the documentary of which the film is based, but it is a bit stretched and loose otherwise. That said the film is more about the human sacrifices, the emotions( a exceptional Russel Crowe) that one man goes through to convey the truth, despite constant endangerment.
It is a fascinating film to watch, even if the components that make it so, seem predictable and somewhat underwhelming in a entertainment context.
