Review of The Insider (1999) by Committed 2 M — 25 Mar 2009
I was prepared to dislike this but was pleasantly surprised. The content only grazes the tip of the iceberg where the tobacco industry is concerned but it was still enough to scare the hell outta me!
I tried to get the only one of my sons who smokes to watch this. Of course he wouldn't. He doesn't want to know the poisons he takes into his body with every drag.
I was extremely pissed at the way CBS and Mike Wallace treated their "insider" but not at all surprised. He was, as he stated, "a commodity.".
I was impressed with Pacino in his portrayal of character. Usually AP portrays bad, badder and the worst of the worst in humanity but this time, he was a guy whose word was his integrity and did not have a price tag!
The pacing was a little slow but this is a thought provoking piece not to be stampeded through so it's understandable.
All in all, much better than I anticipated!
