Review of The Insider (1999) by Mikey M — 16 Oct 2009
Powerful if somewhat underplayed film about two men struggling to do the right thing in the harsh reality of adversity. Crowe's most watchable performance as Mann keeps a lid on him and Pacino does his usual (later career) voice impersonation of Elmer Fudd - respect though as he turns in another great performance.
Christopher Plummer is brilliant as the aging anchorman. This film resists the usual hollywood pot-boiler techniques in favour of some subtle intensity throughout and is better for it. Well handled all around.
