Review of The Innkeepers (2011) by Joel H — 31 Oct 2013
The jolts of shock in this film are that powerful it feels like you are being punched in the face. The Innkeepers features a remarkable build-up, that despite being slow at times has a tense atmosphere and horrific images that will give you nightmares.
Sara Paxton delivers an outstanding performance, her character is so motivated to find the ghost of Madeline O'Malley! Pat Healy is very good too, not as good as Paxton but he plays an important part, his character really starts to develop when the hauntings get more frequent, you see that he really is a bit of a coward! I honestly had to watch this in two parts, I was too freaked out to watch it, after the part where the spirit of Madaliene O' Malley appeared underneath bed sheets, I screamed and my heart was pumping ridiculously fast.
Hotels are always a great setting for a slow building horror movies, The Innkeepers is worth the stay as it will creep under your skin and make your hairs stand! A frightening and memorable experience.
Viewers beware, nothing will prepare you for the last 30 minutes, never felt more terrified since Insidious.
