Review of The Innkeepers (2011) by Danielle H — 19 May 2012
As a veteran of the horror/chiller/thriller genres, I don't get scared - by fiction at least.. But something about the plainness and honesty of this film, it's characters and setting had me biting my nails and actually caring about poor Claire. A very odd film, in that it does nothing special, but for me at least, it draws on one of the more simple, primal fears of man. Fear of the unknown.
The film reminds me of the writings of Stephen King, Robert Chambers, Koontz, and Lovecraft. Strange, weird, chilly, simple, horror..
