Review of The Innkeepers (2011) by Emod L — 28 Apr 2014
The last two employees of an alleged haunted hotel, who happen to be amateur ghost hunters, spend one last weekend in the inn before it closes forever. The rooms are mostly vacant except for three oddball guests who added little to the story in my opinion, so the pair of amateur ghost hunters plan to use the opportunity to get physical recordings of its alleged haunting.
There is very little blood and gore here, except for one scene where a guest commits suicide. The film unfolds very slowly as the director obviously wanted to establish atmosphere, but it took to long in my opinion.
As the film progresses, the employees seem to be getting closer to uncovering real spirits and the film ratchets up the tension as it pushes toward its conclusion. There finally is a bit of terror as they make contact with the spirit of a long deceased guest.
However, the ending was kind of expected and underwhelming.
