Review of The Informer (1935) by Mathieu C — 25 Jun 2007
Often called the first Hollywood art film. Although have always felt that The Crowd is, this film is still great. THis fil uses fog and trick lighting to give the illusion of distance which also suggested an uncertainty that may lay beneath the fog.
The film tells the story of Gypo Nolan who informs on his best friend accused of murder. He does it for 20 pounds and then must deal with the guilt. The film is also about moral redemption and loyalty even at the cost of life.
Great Film.
