Review of The Informer (1935) by Slappy M — 16 Mar 2009
The only good parts of this HIGHLY overrated film is: 1. The MASTERFUL performance by Victor McLaglen. (Wow. Damned good. Hard to believe he wasn't actually drunk. Fantastic performance.) 2. The cinematography is very visually appealing.
Other than that, the story is boring, straight forward and VERY heavy-handed in its over-the-top allusion to the Judas/Christ story. I guess you have to give it credit for what it achieved for its time (1935), but as for holding up in modern times.
.. it doesn't. At all. In any way. Ah well.
