Review of The Informer (1935) by Ilsa L — 21 Feb 2013
Mainly dated movie in which a large thug (Victor McLaghen) rules the streets of an Irish city. He often beats up those who get in his way, and a few are innocent and don't even provoke him. The police are constantly on his tail to try and try to catch him in a dangerous act as he gladly declares himself of the leader on the streets.
McLaghen Oscar winning performance is not enough to bring this one up to worthiness of watching. His performance does not compare to the two nominated ones in "Mutiny on the Bounty" released the same year, of which were Charles Laughton and Clark Gable.
The film is also way too predictable as any viewer would be able to guess what happens at the end. What a disappointment, but it actually captures the atmosphere in a satisfying manner.
