Review of The Informant! (2009) by Slarti B — 12 Nov 2010
Tragicomedy. Interesting characters, no doubt. Sad thing is that ADM would have been properly investigated and punished if Whitacre had been, well, sane. They got away with it. This isn't really well presented in the film.
What is presented well, is a bizarre portrait of Whitacre as an insatiable and convincing liar. I remember reading the conflicting and strange news stories in Illinois surrounding this case. Now I understand why nobody really knew what was happening.
If you know the basic story of the ADM investigation, this will have little comic appeal. I can understand how it can appear comic if ADM is unknown.
