"The Informant" is funny in a weird way, and I can't quite put my finger on why this film was made. It is a strange true story of a man who lies about everything to everyone, including the FBI. It is entertaining, but only because of the artificially playful tone it's been given. I suppose that's one impressive feat of the film, although some might just find it stupid. Matt Damon's Golden Globe-nominated performance really was different for him, and he pulled it off. There's some great one-liners in the film.
But again, why was this film made? I don't know. I don't think entertainment was the primary concern (not that it ever should be), but there are really no deep spiritual truths or political messages. Come to think of it, there's really no reason to watch this film, except as an interesting character study. Oh well.
