Review of The Impossible (2012) by Paul L — 08 Oct 2013
I feel bad for not liking this movie. A moving story about a brave family in a harrowing situation, but it felt too over-dramatic and theatrical and it's intensity was diluted as a consequence. Perhaps a more restrained, naturalistic style of direction would have been more powerful.
Maybe more Flight 93 rather than Mosquito Coast? Its heart was in the right place, no doubt about it, and Ewan's call home is moving enough to erase all memory of star wars. If only the rest of the film had the same emotional impact.
