Review of The Impossible (2012) by Liv H — 05 Jan 2014
Harrowing, emotional and quite overwhelming. The fact that it is based on one families true story from the devastating Boxing Day Tsunami only gives it the greater impact. This isn't a Hollywood disaster movie, this is a real life tragedy shown through the eyes of a scared and resilient family.
The performances are all top notch, and save for a bit of melodrama (especially with the score) and some pacing issues, you can't really fault it. It is a technically brilliant film, I have no idea how they managed to stage the film they did, but it was quite an incredible experience to bare witness to.
The most pleasing aspect was through all the horror, you saw the beauty and triumph of the human spirit. I think this will stay with me for awhile.
