Review of The Importance of Being Earnest (2002) by Bill T — 17 Dec 2007
You could almost say that this version of the Importance Of Being Earnest is like the CliffNotes version of the play. Greatly opened up and somewhat modernized for today's audiences, the movie is (thankfully) not as stage ridden as the earlier film version, but, for some odd reason this doesn't have the bite that the original movie does.
For one big example, as much as a fine actress Judi Dench is, she's no Dame Edith Bricknell. OK for what it is.
