Review of The Importance of Being Earnest (2002) by Nick O — 24 Aug 2008
A witty and intelligent farce of two scheming gentlemen eloquently sidestepping each other around the complex ettiquette and wordplay required for a socialite of the 1890s. The characters are entertaining in their awkwardness, save for Algy's grace and Augusta's impeccability, which both have a class of their own reserved.
The cast is very well chosen and hilarity, quite naturally, ensues. An excellent score smoothly underlies the entire film.
